Dordt College Women's Volleyball vs. Northwestern-GPAC Semifinals

(Orange City, Iowa) The Dordt College Defender volleyball team lost a 3-0 match to Northwestern in the Great Plains Athletic Conference Tournament semifinal round on Wednesday night in Orange City, Iowa. It marked the first time in the last two years that the teams didn’t play to a full five sets. Northwestern won the match 25-16, 25-22, 25-11.

Dordt led briefly at 2-1 in set one but a three point run by Northwestern put them up for good as Dordt failed to score back to back points the rest of the set in falling 25-16. Set two had Northwestern in control most of the way as the Raiders held a 22-17 advantage. A Meghan Krausman kill and a Northwestern block got the set to 23-18 before Dordt scored four points in a row on a service error and two Northwestern attack errors. A Kayla Gesink kill narrowed it to 23-22, forcing Northwestern to take a timeout. A block for a point put Northwestern on set point and the Raiders won it on a Karlie Schut kill.

Dordt led to start set three 3-1 but a four point run by the hosts put them up 5-3 and Dordt couldn’t slow the momentum as Northwestern went on to win 25-11.

Dordt was led by Brooke Wolterstorff’s seven kills while Elizabeth Kiel, Meghan Krausman, Jenna Horstman and Lindsey Floen all had five kills. Dordt hit for a .078 kill efficiency with 29 kills against 21 errors. Kayla Gesink put up 25 assists and Kayla Broekhuis got to a team high 12 digs. Dordt scored two points on blocks and three on service aces.

Northwestern hit for a .330 kill efficiency and had just ten errors against 41 kills. Schut had 13 kills and Kaitlin Floerchinger added eight along with Haley Chambers. Brooke Fessler had 34 assists and Alexis Bart 16 digs.

Dordt is now 22-7 with three of its losses coming to Northwestern. Northwestern is 34-1 and will host Midland in the GPAC Championship match on Saturday night.

Dordt awaits a potential at-large berth to the 36 team NAIA National Tournament field which will be announced late Sunday evening, November 17.
