Dordt College Women's Volleyball vs. Dakota Wesleyan

(Mitchell, South Dakota) The Dordt College Defender volleyball team took a 3-0 win over Dakota Wesleyan on Tuesday night, October 29 in Mitchell, South Dakota. The Defenders won sets one and two handily by scores of 25-18 and 25-8 and had to fight for a 36-34 win in set three to preserve the sweep.
The Defenders were ahead most of set three until a late run by Dakota Wesleyan forced the extra points. Dordt was up 18-14 when the hosts put together a 7-3 spurt to tie the set at 21-21. The teams traded points to 23-23 before a Wesleyan attack error got the Defenders to match point. The Tigers fought the point off with a Taylor Spence kill and proceeded to fight off match point service by the Defenders five times. Wesleyan took the lead at 30-29 but a service error tied it at 30-30. Back to back kills by Jenna Horstman put the Defenders up 32-31 and after several tense volleys, the Defenders won it on a Lindsey Floen kill on an overpass.
Dordt hit .345 for the match and had just 11 attack errors to 23 for the Tigers. Dordt also had six service aces while Wesleyan had three, all in the third set.
Dordt was led by Jenna Horstman with 17 kills and Lindsey Floen had 13 while Brooke Wolterstorff and Elizabeth Kiel had eight kills each. Gesink had 42 assists and 10 digs while Kayla Broekhuis had 15 digs and Wolterstorff 14. Gesink and Wolterstorff each had a pair of ace serves in Dordt's 20th win of the season.
Dakota Wesleyan was topped by Elizabeth Humiston and Hannah Hammer with nine kills each and Taylor Spence had eight. Wesleyan is now 0-14 in the GPAC and 7-25 overall.
Dordt will face Doane in Crete, Nebraska on Saturday with the varsity match at 5:30.
