Dordt College Women's Volleyball vs. Concordia

(Sioux Center, Iowa) The Dordt College Defender volleyball team won its tenth match of the GPAC season and 19th overall with a 3-0 win over Concordia on Saturday by set scores of 25-16, 25-20, 25-23.

Concordia took an early lead in set one and was up 3-1 before Dordt scored six of the next seven points. Dordt eventually got up 13-8 on a Kayla Gesink kill, the setter’s second of the set. Dordt built the lead to as many as six late in the set on a Meghan Krausman kill and they won it 25-16.

Set two was similar in that Dordt trailed 2-1 but this time Concordia hung closer with ties at six, seven and eight all. Dordt got a little breathing room at 17-13 after an Elizabeth Kiel kill and the lead stayed at the three and four point difference with Jenna Horstman recording back to back kills to finish the set for a 25-20 win.

Dordt looked like it was in the driver’s seat most of the third set but the visitors made a comeback from down 18-15, eventually taking the lead at 19-18. Dordt used a timeout and tied it on the next play with Horstman knocking a kill down and the teams traded points to ties at 20, 21, 22 and 23. A Lindsey Floen kill put the Defenders up for good at 24-23 and the Defenders won it on an attack error by the Bulldogs on the next play.

Dordt hit for a .319 kill efficiency with Lindsey Floen and Jenna Horstman both putting down nine and Meghan Krausman had seven with Brooke Wolterstorff adding five.

Kayla Gesink put up 33 assists and Kayla Broekhuis had 12 digs.

Claire White led the Concordia attack with 11 kills and Paige Getz had 10 while Alayna Kavanaugh had 32 assists. White also had a team high ten digs.

Dordt is now 10-3 in the GPAC and is tied for third place with Hastings with three matches remaining. Dordt is 19-5 overall and will play Dakota Wesleyan on the road on Tuesday night. Concordia is 4-10 in the league and 15-12 overall.
