Dordt College Women's Volleyball vs. Tabor

(Orange City, Iowa) The Dordt College Defender volleyball team lost a 3-2 match decision to Tabor (Kansas) Saturday evening, August 24 at the Northwestern Red Raider Classic in Orange City, Iowa.

The Defenders took the first two sets in convincing fashion by scores of 25-15, 25-15. Set three belonged to Tabor as the held on to win 25-22.

The two teams were tied 22-22 in the fourth set before Tabor rattled off the final three points of the set to win 25-22 and force set number five.

Dordt seized the early lead 7-3 but the Blue Jays came back and took the lead at 12-10. The Defenders tied it at 12-12 but a Dordt service error followed by a Tabor ace gave the Jays match point service. The Defenders got an attack at the net but the hit was wide and the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference member had the win.

Dordt was paced by Kayla Gesink's 51 assists and 16 digs. Brooke Wolterstorff led the attack at the net with 15 kills and she had 25 digs. Lindsey Floen accounted for 14 kills and was in on two blocks. Jenna Horstman and Meghan Krausman both had ten kills for the Defenders as Dordt had a kill efficiency of .288. Kayla Broekhuis had a team high 30 digs.

"Tabor played a very solid match and grew stronger as it progressed. We were tested in this contest and I'm pleased overall with how we performed in the tournament. The areas for improvement are vast and attainable. My team is eager for our next practice opportunity," said Dordt College coach Chad Hanson.

Dordt finishes the weekend with a 3-1 mark and will be idle until Friday, August 30 when they travel to Bellevue, Nebraska for four matches in a classic over two days. Dordt is scheduled to face Viterbo (Wisconsin), John Brown (Arkansas), College of the Ozarks (Missouri) and Mayville State (North Dakota).
