Dordt College Women's Volleyball vs. Dakota Wesleyan

(Sioux Center, Iowa) The Dordt College Defenders overcame a sluggish set two to forge a 25-17, 22-25, 25-20, 25-10 win over Dakota Wesleyan. Dordt maintains their hold on second place in the Great Plains Athletic Conference standings with the win with four matches remaining.
Dordt won set one handily, getting up 13-6 early and holding the visitors off the rest of the set for the 25-17 win, getting the final point on a Danae Geels kill.
Set two started with Dordt in front 11-8 after a Danielle Bird attack error. Wesleyan got rolling with three kills in a row by three different players. The score was tied again at 12-12 with Wesleyan taking the lead on a Lindsey Floen hitting error. A service ace by the Tigers and two more Dordt hitting errors pushed the Tigers up 17-12. Dordt didn't get closer than four until they strung together three points in a row on a kill by Floen and two by Kayla Gesink. Trailing 22-21, the Defenders surrendered a kill by Sammy Fluck and the Tigers held on for the 25-22 win.
Set three was all Dordt early as the Defenders got up 7-2 and they held on as Dakota Wesleyan cut the gap to 16-15. Dordt had a slight lead the rest of the set and won 25-20, getting the final point on an attack error.
Set four was never close as Dordt went up 10-3 and never looked back in winning 25-10. Dordt did not commit a hitting error in set four and hit for a .560 kill efficiency in that set.
Dordt is now 10-2 in the league and 21-8 overall. Dakota Wesleyan falls to 1-11 and 5-25 overall.
Dordt was led by Floen and Geels with ten kills each. Loy Sahr added nine kills and Kayla Gesink put up 38 assists with 10 digs. Gesink shared team honors with Kayla Broekhuis in digs.
Wesleyan was topped by Sam Sandau with 12 kills and Briana Jung had 43 assists with seven digs.
Dordt is scheduled to host Concordia on Saturday, October 23. The junior varsity match start 1:30 and the varsity at 3:00.
