Dordt College Women's Volleyball vs. Nebraska Wesleyan

(Sioux Center, Iowa) Dordt College scored a dramatic come from behind win in set five of its match with Nebraska Wesleyan to prevail 3-2 in a GPAC match at the De Witt Gym on Saturday afternoon.

Dordt scored the last three points of the match to overcome a 14-13 deficit and won 16-14. The set featured eight ties with Katelyn Schuller tying it at 14-14. Danae Geels unlocked the tie with a kill and Loy Sahr finished it with a kill on an overpass to win it 16-14.

To get to the decisive fifth set, Dordt won sets one and three but lost sets two and four.

A five point run in set one put the Defenders up 13-5 with Geels registering back to back kills in the run and Jenna Horstman finished it with a kill for a 25-19 win.

Set two had Dordt fighting from behind most of the way, tying it at 17-17. Two straight points by the visitors put them ahead to stay and they won the set 25-19.

Set three was tight with the Defenders scoring four points in a row to increase a 16-15 lead to 20-15 and the hosts held on for a 25-21 win.

Dordt nearly won the match in four sets, tying the set at 19-19 on a setting error by Wesleyan but three straight points made it 22-19 for the visitors. Dordt battled, coming within one at two different junctures--22-21 and 24-23 but a Katelyn Walsh kill won it for Wesleyan.

Dordt hit .141 as a team and had 77 digs while Wesleyan hit .172 with 69 digs. Dordt scored 13 points on blocks and Wesleyan had 11.

Dordt was led by Katelyn Schuller with 18 kills and Geels had 15 while Lindsey Floen and Loy Sahr had eight kills a piece. Kayla Gesink put up 49 assists and had two aces with 13 digs. Kayla Broekhuis had a team high 25 digs and Floen was in on six blocks.

Dordt is 14-3 overall and 4-0 in the GPAC while Nebraska Wesleyan falls to 1-3 and 6-6. Dordt travels to Northwestern on Wednesday for GPAC play.
