Dordt College Women's Volleyball vs. Mount Marty

(Sioux Center, Iowa) Dordt College had to come from behind in set one in its match with Mount Marty for a 27-25 narrow win, but the next two sets had wide margins of 25-15, 25-13 as the Defenders swept the Lancers in GPAC play Wednesday night.
Dordt trailed 23-21 and were forced to used a timeout in set one. A service error and hitting error by the Lancers tied it at 23-23 but the Lancers got another point to serve for the set. Another hitting error by the visitors tied it at 24-24. Amanda Dirksen had a kill for the Lancers to make it 25-24, but the point was the last the Defenders would surrender as they got a kill from Katelyn Schuller, a block and kill by Loy Sahr for the 27-25 win.
"I was so happy with how our team responded out of the timeout," said Dordt College coach Chad Hanson. "A little more thrilling win then we would have liked but it was great to see how we responded in set one."
Dordt scored the first five points of set two to take control and were up by ten at 14-4 before winning 25-15. Set three had the Defenders race to a 12-2 advantage before settling in for a 25-13 win.
Dordt was led by Schuller with 11 kills and Loy Sahr had nine. Kayla Gesink put up 32 assists and Jana Van Zanten led with eight digs.
Mount Marty got seven kills from Amanda Dirksen and Lexie Branson had six. Caitlyn Illg put up 23 assist.
Dordt is 13-3 and 3-0 in the GPAC while Mount Marty falls to 0-3 in the GPAC and 2-11 overall.
Dordt will host Nebraska Wesleyan on Saturday, Septeber 22 at 4:00 in its next outing.
