Dordt College Women's Volleyball vs. Northwestern

(Orange City, Iowa) Northwestern forced a split of the regular season series with the Dordt Defenders in volleyball action Thursday night, November 3 with a 3-1 win in Orange City.
Northwestern won set one in come from behind fashion as Dordt got in front 11-6 to start the set. A Jessica De Stigter kill off a dump shot to the back line kept the Defenders advantage at 13-8 but the Raiders scored seven of the next eight points and took a 15-14 lead. The score was tied at 15, 17, 18,19, 20, 21, 23, 24, 25 and 26 before Northwestern won it 28-26. Dordt had set point serves three times but couldn't convert. Northwestern scored the final three points of the set to forge the win.
Northwestern rode the momentum of set one into set two as they built an early 6-2 lead. Dordt scratched back to within 12-10 on a Lindsey Moerman kill but couldn't come all the way back as Northwestern took a 2-0 lead with a 25-18 win.
Set three had the Raiders in front early again, getting out to a 5-0 lead before the Defenders tied it at 12-12 on a Northwestern attack error. The two teams traded two point runs and Dordt built a 19-17 lead before a three point run gave Northwestern a 20-19 lead on a kill by Jennie Jansen. This time Dordt was able to answer the run with a five point run of its own, forging a 24-20 lead with back to back kills by April Solsma to cap the run. Northwestern fought off set point twice but an attack error gave Dordt the 25-22 win.
Set four had Northwestern in front most the way with Dordt fighting back to tie it at 21-21 on a block and tied it again at 23-23 on an attack error. A kill by Northwestern followed by a Katelyn Floerchinger ace serve won it for Northwestern as they took over possession of fourth place in the conference.
Dordt was led by Katelyn Schuller's 16 kills and Danae Geels had 12. Jessica De Stigter had 22 assists and Kayla Gesink had 21. Jocelyn Bousema accounted for 13 digs and Jana Van Zanten nine.
Jennie Jansen had 21 kills to pace Northwestern and Jaci Moret had 17. Kaitlin Floerchinger put up 55 assists and Alexis Bart had 17 digs.
Dordt is 15-16 overall and 9-6 in the league. Northestern is 17-15 and 10-5. Dordt will close the regular season with a home match against Nebraska Wesleyan with the varsity match getting started at 3:00.
