Dordt College Women's Volleyball vs. Midland (NE)

(Sioux Center, Iowa) The Dordt College Defender volleyball snapped a two-match losing string with a convincing 25-15, 25-14, 25-14 win over the Midland Warriors. The Warriors entered the week with a 6-0 conference mark and left the week with a 6-2 mark while Dordt now stands 5-3 in the GPAC.

Dordt never trailed in set one as they built a 13-8 lead on four straight points. Midland cut the gap to three on two different occasions but a late run by the Defenders with a Lindsey Moerman kill and two blocks opened up a 21-14 advantage and Loy Griess ended the set with a kill for the 25-15 win.

Set two was all Dordt as the hosts built an 8-2 advantage and rolled to a 25-14 win with the final point coming on a Midland service error.

Set three was tied at every juncture from 1-1 through 9-9. An April Solsma kill gave the Defenders the lead for good and a six point run with Amber Weingartner serving allowed the Defenders to pull in front 19-11 and won it on a Kiley Velgersdyk kill for a 25-14 triumph.

Dordt hit for a .408 kill efficiency and got eight kills from Katelyn Schuller and Lindsey Moerman while Kiley Velgersdyk hammered seven and Danae Geels added four. Kayla Gesink led Dordt with 16 assists and Jessica De Stigter had 13. Jocelyn Bousema had 13 digs and Lindsey Moerman and Loy Griess were both in on five block assists. Dordt had one service error the entire evening and one serve reception error.

"This wasn't a surprise if you watched the last two days as this team continues to work and grow," said Dordt College head coach Chad Hanson. "The distribution by our setters tonight was great."

Midland was led by Ashley Wheeler's 11 kills and Megan Farley had 28 assists.

Dordt is 5-3 in the league and 10-13 overall while Midland is now 14-7 and 6-2. Dordt will play Briar Cliff in Sioux City on Tuesday.
