Dordt College Women's Volleyball vs. Mount Marty

(Yankton, South Dakota) The Dordt College Defenders swept the Mount Marty Lancers in Great Plains Athletic Conference play on Wednesday, September 21 in Yankton, South Dakota to improve to 3-1 in conference play. The Defenders started sluggishly in all three sets but managed to come back in all three for the 25-12, 25-17, 25-19 win.

Dordt surrendered four straight points in set one but bounced back to take the lead for the first time at 9-8 on a block and strung together five points in a row later to extend the difference to 17-10. Dordt closed the set by scoring eight of the last nine points to win 25-12 with the final point coming off a Mount Marty attack error.

Set two had the Lancers ahead early again but Dordt seemed to be in control with an 8-3 advantage. The hosts fought back to tie it at 12-12 with ties occurring at 13-13, 15-15 and 16-16 before the Lancers took a 17-16 advantage. Dordt proceeded to score the next nine points in a row with kills from Lindsey Moerman, Danae Geels and Jana Van Zanten along with three Mount Marty attack errors.

Set three was tied at 12-12 as well but the Defenders pushed out to a 15-12 lead and an eventual 22-15 advantage before taking the match with Kayla Broekhuis getting the visitors to match point with an ace serve and a Lancer attack error ended the night for a 25-19 Dordt win.

Dordt was paced by Lindsey Moerman with 10 kills and Katelyn Schuller added eight while Jana Van Zanten had seven. Kayla Gesink had 12 assists and Jessica De Stigter 11. Jocelyn Bousema accounted for 12 digs and an ace serve while Amber Weingartner had 10 digs and two ace serves.

Mount Marty, now 0-3 in the league and 4-12 overall, was led by Kate Lingscheit with four kills and Amanda Dirksen and Emily Anderson had three kills each. Dirksen was the team leader in digs with nine.

Dordt will face MidAmerica Nazarene, Bellevue and Grand View this weekend at a classic hosted by Bellevue on Friday and Saturday, September 23 and 24.
