Dordt College Women's Volleyball vs. Nebraska Wesleyan

(Lincoln, Nebraska) The Dordt College volleyball team fell for the first time in Great Plains Athletic Conference action in a match Saturday, September 17 at Lincoln, Nebraska against Nebraska Wesleyan.

Dordt won set one 25-17 but lost set two 25-18. The Defenders took a 2-1 lead in the match with a 25-21 win in the third set but came up short again in set four 25-18. The hosts then took the deciding set by a 15-8 margin for their first win of the conference season in two tries.

Dordt was led by Jana Van Zanten's 14 kills and 13 digs while Katelyn Schuller had 12 kills. April Solsma and Danae Geels put down 10 and nine kills respectively.

Jessica De Stigter put up a team high 30 assists and Kayla Gesink had 24 assists and two ace serves. Jocelyn Bousema led the team with 27 digs and also had two ace serves.

"A well played match for us as a team that just had us coming up short in the end," said Dordt College coach Chad Hanson. "Our blocking definitely lacked some aggressive focus which helped give their hitters confidence as the match continued."

Wesleyan was led by Cody Long's 18 kills and Brittnie Kreikemeier had 15.

Dordt is 6-9 overall and 2-1 in the GPAC while Wesleyan is 6-4 overall and 1-1 in the league. Dordt is scheduled to face Mount Marty in Yankton, South Dakota on Wednesday, September 21.
