Dordt College Women's Volleyball vs. Dakota Wesleyan

(Sioux Center, Iowa) Dordt College swept through Dakota Wesleyan in Great Plains Athletic Conference volleyball action on Wednesday night in Sioux Center by set scores of 25-13, 25-12 and 25-16.

The Defenders used a fast start in the first set to get up 16-4, running off seven points in a row at one point with Kayla Broekhuis in the service area. Broekhuis delivered two ace serves during the string and the Defenders were never challenged in the set, winning by the eventual 25-13 margin.

Set two belonged to Dordt as well after ties at 1-1 and 2-2 the Defenders grew their lead to 12-7. The five point lead grew to eight at 18-10 on a kill by April Solsma and reached double figures at 21-11 on a pair of service aces by Katelyn Schuller. Dordt won the set by an eventual 25-12 margin.

Set three featured a tie at 6-6 before Dordt pushed in front 12-7. A kill by Jana Van Zanten extended the lead to 19-12 and the Defenders went on to win 25-16 for their second win in as many tries in the GPAC and lifted their record to 6-8 overall. Wesleyan is 0-1 in the conference and 7-7 overall.

Dordt was led by Jana Van Zanten's 10 kills and she had seven digs. Danae Geels and Katelyn Schuller each had seven kills and Loy Griess had five kills in 13 swings with no errors.

"We had good balance on our attack and were pretty efficient in the middle," said Coach Chad Hanson after the match. "Lindsey (Moerman) and Loy (Griess) did a great job of being available and that's what we've asked them to do."

Kayla Gesink registered 17 assists and Jessica De Stigter 13 while Kayla Broekhuis had a team high four aces serves to go with four digs. Jocelyn Bousema led all players with 15 digs.

"Our setters did a good job of distributing the ball," said Hanson. "Kayla's service streaks gave us some breathing room."

Dakota Wesleyan was led by Danielle Bird with seven kills and Larissa Veldhuizen had six. Brooke Warne had 13 digs and Bird 11.
