Dordt College Women's Volleyball vs. Point Loma-Point Loma Classic

(Point Loma, California) Facing their second ranked team of the day, the Dordt Defender volleyball team battled but came up short in a 3-1 loss to Point Loma Nazarene in the final match of the Seaside Classic hosted by the Sea Lions in San Diego, California.

Dordt lost set one 25-13 but bounced back for a 26-24 win in set two. The hosts won a one-sided decision in set three 25-11. Dordt led in set four 23-21 but gave up the final four points of the set in falling to the #6 ranked team in the country. Point Loma is now 8-0 to start the year.

Dordt was led by Danae Geels and Katelyn Schuller with nine and seven kills respectively. Jocelyn Bousema had 14 digs and two ace serves. Kayla Gesink had 15 assists and seven digs and Jessica De Stigter had 14 assists.

"This was one of the most statistically bizarre matches we've played in this season, yet a great experience for us to realize that any match can be competitively close," said Dordt College coach Chad Hanson. "This tournament benefited us with discovering who we can be on the road and at home through the challenge of the GPAC schedule ahead. Many wonderful memories were made on this team bonding trip to Point Loma."

Dordt is now 5-8 and will host Dakota Wesleyan on Wednesday, September 14 in GPAC play.
