Dordt College Women's Volleyball vs. St. Ambrose University

(Sioux Center, Iowa) The St. Ambrose (Iowa) Bees earned a return trip to the final site of the NAIA National Volleyball Championship on Saturday night, November 20 in a 3-1 win over the Dordt College Defenders in the Opening Round of the tournament.
Dordt started fast, winning stet one 25-19 with a a five point run putting the hosts in control at 15-9. Dordt was able to withstand the run put on the Bees near the end of the contest to win and scored the final two points of the set on St. Ambrose hitting errors.
Set two was tied at 1-1 and 2-2 before St. Ambrose seized control of the set and match. Dordt was fighting from behind and managed to cut the lead down 11-10 on a block. The Bees ripped off seven points in a row to put the Defenders on their heels at 18-11 with two service aces coming from Tori Matzen during the scoring spree. Two points off kills by Kendra Potgeter and Brittany Landegent slowed the run momentarily but the Bees went for another five points in a row with three of those points coming off ace serves by Kelsy Heiser. The visitors made the final 25-13 with Dordt getting called for a two-hit violation to cap the set.
Set three was easily the most competitive with the teams fighting through 11 ties, the last at 17-17, before the Bees again went on a run, this time for four points and won by a 25-21 margin after Dordt got no closer than 23-21.
Set four had the Midwest Collegiate Conference member in control almost from the start with Dordt narrowing an early five point lead to 9-7 on a Defender block. A St. Ambrose timeout later the Bees went on a three point run with two of the points coming on blocks and strung together another sequence with six out of seven points scored by the Bees and Dordt lost by a 25-15 count. St. Ambrose's final point came on an Amy Royer kill, her 20th of the match.
Dordt was led by Kendra Potgeter with 18 kills while Brittany Landegent had seven and Loy Griess and Lindsey Moerman each added six. Dorinda Hibma got to 29 digs and Jocelyn Bousema had 10. Bekah Posthuma and Jessica De Stigter had 22 and 16 assists respectively.
St. Ambrose was topped by Royer with 20 kills. Tori Matzen had 11 and Kelly Peck nine. Kesly Heiser recorded 40 assists and Catherine Wildner had 10 digs.
Dordt's season ends with a 32-8 mark while St. Ambrose advances with a 27-12 mark and will await its pool assignment which will be released on Sunday. The NAIA Volleyball National Championship will be played in Sioux City November 30-December 4.
