Dordt College Women's Volleyball vs. Northwestern

(Orange City, Iowa) A fast start for the Dordt College Defenders didnít hold up against the #5 ranked Northwestern Red Raiders in Orange City on Wednesday night in Great Plains Athletic Conference volleyball play.

Dordt scored the final five points of set one to win 25-20, pulling away from the seventh tie of the set. Back to back kills by Kendra Potgeter finished off the set that Northwestern led 17-14 before Dordt scored four points in a row.

Set two was tight with eight ties up to 19-19. Neither team led by more than three until Northwestern scored three in a row to go from up 21-20 to 24-20 with a Rylee Hulstein ace serve capping the three point run. Northwestern won that set 25-21.

Dordt started fast with a 9-2 lead in set three, forcing Northwestern to use two timeouts. Northwestern scored five straight points in response and eventually took the lead at 12-11, again on an ace and they held the Defenders off for a 25-20 win. Dordt got as close as 19-18 but couldnít keep the run together.

The Defenders hung with Northwestern in set four up to a 13-13 tie but Northwestern scored the net four points with two of the points coming on Hillary Hanno kills and the Red Raiders closed with the 25-18 win.

Kendra Potgeter led Dordt with 14 kills and Brittany Landegent put down seven. Lindsey Moerman contributed six kills with Bekah Posthuma leading the team in assists with 20. Jessica De Stigter lofted 13 assists and Dorinda Hibma had 26 digs.

Potgeter topped the Defenders with 12 assisted blocks and Brittany Landegent had five block assists and Danae Geels four. Loy Griess put down two solo blocks and two assisted blocks.

Northwestern was topped by Hanno with 12 kills and Kaitlyn Beaver had nine.

Dordt is 16-3 overall and 2-1 in the league. The loss ends a 14 match winning streak for the Defenders. Northwestern improves to 16-0 overall and 4-0 in the league.
