Dordt College Women's Volleyball vs. Sioux Falls-GPAC Playoff Quarterfinal

(Sioux Center, Iowa) The Dordt College Defender volleyball team improved to 32-6 this season with a convincing 3-0 win over Sioux Falls in the Great Plains Athletic Conference post-season quarterfinals Tuesday night. Dordt will advance to the semifinals on Thursday opposite Doane in Crete, Nebraska.
Dordt won set one by a 25-15 margin after pulling away from a 9-6 lead with a kills by Danae Geels and back to back kills by Jana Van Zanten. Van Zanten eventually did the honors with a kill to make the final 25-15.
Set two featured six ties to 10-10 with Sioux Falls making it 14-10 on four straight points. Dordt chipped at the lead with kills by Potgeter and Van Zanten but gave the points right back with kill by Kaprice Glover and a two-hit violation. Dordt answered with four straight points and but didnít take the lead until the 21-20 mark with a Sioux Falls hitting error unlocking a 20-20 tie. Sioux Falls battled back for a tie at 23-23 and 24-24 and served for the win but a Dordt hitting error tied it at 25-25. The Cougars had a hitting error of their own at 26-25 and Potgeter put it away with a kill for the final of 27-25.
After an 11-11 tie the Defenders put set three away with six straight points and won it by a 25-13 margin on another Potgeter kill.
Dordt was led by Potgeterís 10 kills and two solo blocks with six assists. Danae Geels had nine kills and three assisted blocks and Brittany Landegent had seven kills with five assists. Bekah Posthuma put up 20 assists and Jessica De Stigter had 18. Dorinda Hibma lofted 21 digs and was 27-27 on serve receptions.
Sioux Falls got 11 kills by Kim Elgersma and eight by Alyssa Chambers. Amber Nieuwsma finished with 13 assists and Rachel Heeney had 19 digs.
Dordt is 32-6 and will travel to Crete, Nebraska for a semifinal match against Doane while Sioux Falls finishes the season with a 21-19 record.
