October 31, 2009

(Sioux Center, Iowa) The Northwestern Red Raiders made it a season sweep of the Dordt College Defenders in volleyball play with a 3-0 win over Dordt in Sioux Center, Iowa, Saturday night, October 31. Dordt drops to 11-5 in the league with the 25-18, 25-20, 25-20 loss.

the two teams played even for the first half of all three sets but Northwestern built a cushion in each of the sets around the midpoint and held off Dordt College charges to improve to 16-0 in the conference and 30-2 overall.

The two teams were tied at 11-11 in set one when Randa Hulstein slammed a kill for the lead that led to a four point run and Dordt managed to get as close as three on a service error by Northwestern, but no closer, in falling 25-18. Set two had Dordt cut the margin to 16-15 after trailing 16-11 with a combination of Northwestern errors, a Dorinda Hibma ace and a Brittany Landegent kill. The Dordt push couldn't continue though as Northwestern ran off five points in a row to go from up 17-16 to 22-16 before winning 25-20. Set three was similar in that Dordt came back to get to within 15-14 on back to back Kendra Potgeter kills but the run wasn't enough as Northwestern scored five in a row with Kaitlin Beaver serving and went on to post the 25-20 win after Dordt cut the margin to 23-20.
