Dordt College Women's Volleyball vs. Nebraska Wesleyan

(Sioux Center, Iowa) The Dordt College Defender volleyball team earned a 3-0 match win over the Nebraska Wesleyan Prairie Wolvers in Great Plains Athletic Conference play on Saturday at the De Witt Gym in Sioux Center, Iowa.

Playing in front of a Parent's Weekend crowd the Defenders did not disappoint. One night after beating ranked Doane, the Defenders raced to a 5-0 lead in set one with back to back kills by Brittany Landegent. Dordt then pushed the lead to 14-5 with Danae Geels registering back to back kills and the Defenders were never pushed in set one, winning by a final count of 25-10. Set two was tighter with the two teams tied at 2-2, but the Defenders again established a lead and were up 10-6 after Steph Fykstra slammed a kill. Landegent had a kill and a block to lift the lead to 16-9 and the difference got all the way to 20-10 before Wesleyan trimmed the lead to 20-15. Dordt maintained controll and with Jana Van Zanten sandwiching a kill around a block, the Defenders went on to win 25-19.

Dordt rattled off eight points in a row to start set three and maintained at least a four point lead the rest of the way in bagging the 25-18 win for their 22nd match win of the season and their ninth conference win in 11 tries.

Dordt was led by Potgeter and Van Zanten with 11 kills each while Landegent had nine. Dorinda Hibma had 28 digs and was 27-27 on serve receptions while Jessica De Stigter had 15 assists and was 13-13 on serves. Betsy Van't Hul lofted 14 assists and Van Zanten had 11 digs.

Nebraska Wesleyan, now 6-6 in the leauge and 16-8 overall, got six kills by Brittny Barber and seven kills from Laura Brammeier. Kelsey Elman had 24 digs and Brammeier 23.

The Defenders will travel to Vermillion, South Dakota on Tuesday, October 20 to take on the University of South Dakota Coyotes before playing Morningside and Briar Cliff on the road on October 23 and 24.
