Dordt College Women's Volleyball vs. Sioux Falls

(Sioux Center, Iowa) The Dordt College Defender volleyball team ran their winning streak to six in Great Plains Athletic Conference matches with a 3-0 match win over the Sioux Falls Cougars on Tuesday night in Sioux Center. The Defenders pulled away late in set one, stole set two after trailing late and held off a Sioux Falls charge in set three for a 25-20, 25-20, 25-23 win to improve to 6-1 in the conference.
Dordt pulled away from a 9-9 tie near the midpoint of set one with repeated kills by Brittany Landegent to forge a 16-12 lead. The Cougars got back to within 18-16 but a Brandee Schaap attack from behind the kill line, attacking from the back row, made it 19-16 and Sioux Falls got no closer in losing 25-20 with Kendra Potgeter providing the final kill of the set.
Set two had 12 ties to the 15-15 mark with Sioux Falls taking a 17-15 lead on kills by Kinzie Van Voorst and Sarah Kohler. Danae Geels kept Dordt in it with back to back kills but the Cougars looked on their way to evening the match when a Dordt hit went long to give Sioux Falls a 21-19 win. Before the point could go up on the board a touch call was ruled on the block attempt by Sioux Falls, tying the score at 20-20 and giving Dordt the push they needed to start aut run. A Jana Van Zanten kill gave Dordt the lead and a Potgter block and kill made it 22-20. Dordt eventually won the set on a Potgeter block for a 25-20 win, scoring the final seven points of the set.
Set three was tied 12-12 with Dordt scoring three in a row for a 15-12 lead. The Cougars refused to fade, eventually tying the set on a block but a Brittany Landegent kills gave Dordt the lead and the Defenders went on to win 25-23.
Dordt was paced by Potgeter's 14 kills with Landegent getting nine and Geels and Van Zanten each had eight. Cassie Huizenga and Jessica De Stigter put up 23 and 17 kills each and Dorinda Hibma had a match high 20 digs. Brandee Schaap got to nine digs and Van Zanten eight.
Sioux Falls got 11 kills by Kinzie Van Voorst and Danielle Roers had ten. Rachel Heeney led the team with 15 digs.
Dordt is 6-1 in the GPAC and 18-6 overall while Sioux Falls stands at 2-5 in the loop and 13-13 overall. Dordt faces Hastings on Friday and Concordia on Saturday, both on the road.
