Dordt College Women's Volleyball vs. Brownsville

The Dordt College Defender volleyball team bounced back from a loss earlier in the day to take a 3-0 win over the University of Texas-Brownsville to cap their weekend at the tournament hosted by Brownsville. Dordt ended the weekend 3-1.
The Defenders raced away from the Scorpions in set one with a 25-11 win and then held off the host school 26-24 in set two. Up 2-0, the Defenders made short work of Brownsville with a convincing 25-10 win, avenging a loss to the Scorpions from 2007.
Dordt's Kendra Potgeter (sophomore; Byron Center, Michigan) had 13 kills with two solo blocks and two assisted blocks. Kristin De Ronde (senior; Oskaloosa, Iowa) put away eight kills and Kelsey Van Dyke (freshman; Edgerton, Minnesota) and Larissa Veldhuizen (junior; Pipestone, Minnesota) contributed seven and six kills a piece. Jessica De Stigter (freshman; Sioux Center, Iowa) lofted 20 assists and Cassie Huizenga (junior; Orange City,Iowa) got eight assists up at the net. Van Dyke got to 14 digs and Dorinda Hibma (sophomore; Sioux Center, Iowa) had 10. Dordt got nine of their points in the match by way of ace serve.
Dordt has a full week off before taking a short trip to Orange City for four matches at the Northwestern Red Raider Classic beginning with a match against Grand View (Iowa) Friday afternoon and a contest against GPAC rival Doane College Friday night. The Defenders then get tests from Olivet Nazarene (Illinois) on Saturday and a match with Waldorf will complete the weekend on August 30.
