Dordt College Women's Volleyball vs. Doane-Northwestern Tournament

(Orange City, Iowa) Behind a 22 kill performance by Kendra Potgeter (sophomore; Byron Center, Michigan), Dordt College was able to fight off a feisty Doane volleyball team and had the Crete, Nebraska based school their first loss of the young 2008 season.
The Defenders won games one and two 25-23 and 25-15 and were even with Doane in game three before fading 25-20. Dordt was up 14-11 in game four but the Tigers reversed their fortunes and went up 21-16 before winning by the 25-21 margin.
Dordt took the momentum back midway through game five when Kendra Potgeter had back to back kills to put Dordt up 13-10 and the Defenders held on for a 15-11 win for their fifth win of the season. Potgeter assisted on 11 blocks at the net to lead a strong defensive effort and Dorinda Hibma (sophomore; Sioux Center, Iowa) had 32 digs in the marathon match. Kelsey Van Dyke (freshman; Edgerton, Minnesota) had 11 kills and 12 digs and Kristin De Ronde (senior; Oskaloosa, Iowa) had eight kills and one solo block with four assisted. Jessica De Stigter (freshman; Sioux Center, Iowa) had a team high 27 assists and Cassie Huizenga (junior; Orange City, Iowa) had 19. Amber Weingartner (freshman; Arvada, Colorado had three ace serves in the match.
Dordt is now 5-1 and will face nationally ranked Olivet Nazarene (Illinois) on Saturday at 11:00 and will conclude the tournament against Black Hills State at 5:00.
