Dordt College Women's Volleyball vs. Dakota Wesleyan

(Mitchell, South Dakota) The Dordt College Defender volleyball team won their eighth straight match and improved to 12-2 in the Great Plains Athletic Conference with a 3-0 win over teh Dakota Wesleyan Tigers on Tuesday night, October 28 in Mitchell, South Dakota.

The Defenders pulled away midway through set one with a four point run to lead 13-7 and never allowed Wesleyan to get closer than five the rest of the way for a 25-19 win.

Set two was tied 4-4 when the Defenders went on a nine point spree with Amber Weingartner serving two aces in the run. Wesleyan pushed to within five but got no closer in falling 25-17 with April Solsma putting away the winner. Set three featured six ties to 8-8 before Dordt pulled away to a two point lead that the held mos tof the way. Wesleyan hung around to cut the lead to 20-19 but the Defenders leaned on their leading hitter, Kendra Potgeter, at the end and the sophomore responded with four kills out of Dordt's final five points on the way to a 25-20 win. The lone point in the run from someone other than Potgeter was a dump shot by Jessica DeStigter for her only kill of the set.

Dordt was led by Kendra Potgeter's 16 kills and Larissa Veldhuizen had 12 with Kristin De Ronde knocking down 10. Jessica De Stigter and Cassie Huizenga had 18 and 17 kills respectively while Dorinda Hibma led the Defenders in digs with 21. Weingartner got credit for two ace serves and Kelsey Van Dyke had 10 digs and an ace serve.

Dakota Wesleyan was led by Maria Weineke with eight kills and Jen Miner had seven. Dena Kopfman got to 21 digs and Ashley Kley 13.

Dordt improves to 29-5 overall and 12-2 in the conference while Dakota Wesleyan is 14-18 overall and 3-10 in the league.

Dordt hosts Mount Marty on Friday, October 31 and travel to Northwestern, Tuesday, November 4 for their regular season finale.
