Dordt College Women's Volleyball vs. Sioux Falls

(Sioux Center, Iowa) The Dordt College Defender volleyball team dispatched of the Sioux Falls Cougars in Great Plains Athletic Conference play Tuesday night in Sioux Center, Iowa.

The Defenders pulled away late in all three of their sets with the Cougars on the way to wins of 25-19, 25-18 and 25-19.

Dordt scored four points in a row in set one to pull away from a 9-9 tie with kills by Krisitn De Ronde, an ace serve by Cassie Huizenga and a hitting error by the the Cougars. Sioux Falls cut the lead to 18-17 with two points in a row but couldn't keep it close as Dordt won set one 25-19.

Set was tight to a a 15-15 tie, the tenth of the set when Dordt got a block and a kill by Larissa Veldhuizen. Dordt stretched the lead to 20-16 when Sioux Falls used their second timeout to stem the momentum momentarily on a Dordt hitting error. Up 20-17, the Defenders scored two in a row to stretch it to 22-17 and won by an eventual 25-18 margin with Kelsey Van Dyke smacking back to back kills get the Defenders to set point.

Sioux Falls hung around in set three, trailing 16-15 on a Danielle Roers kill but the Defenders took control with a five point run and went on to win 25-19 on a Kristin De Ronde kill.

Dordt was led by Kelsey Van Dyke's 11 kills and she had seven digs. Kendra Potgeter put down 10 kills and was in on four assisted blocks. Larissa Veldhuizen and Krisitn De Ronde had eight and six kills respectively. Jessica De Stigter put up 19 assists and Cassie Huizenga 13 and Dorinda Hibma led Dordt with 15 digs. Betsy Van't Hul had a solo block for the Defenders with two assisted stuffs.

Sioux Falls was paced by roers with eight kills and Amber Sneller, Teri Smith and Megan Boomgarden all had five kills. Michelle Moller led the team with 11 digs.

Dordt is now 26-5 overall and 9-2 in the league while Sioux Falls drops to 1-9 in the league and 14-17 overall.

Dordt travels to Dana in Blair, Nebraska this Friday night and will play Midland Lutheran on Saturday in Fremont, Nebraska.
