Dordt College Women's Volleyball vs. Briar Cliff

(Sioux Center, Iowa) The Dordt College Defender volleyball team ran their winning streak to four with a 3-0 win over the Briar Cliff Chargers in Great Plains Athletic Conference play Saturday night in Sioux Center, Iowa.
The Defenders won a squeaker in set one and went on to win sets two and three by more comfortable margins for their 25th win in 30 tries this season.
Dordt took a 6-2 lead in set one with six straight points--thre of them on kills by Kendra Potgeter. Briar Cliff regrouped with a timeout and tied the set at 6-6 and actually took an 8-6 lead before the Defenders could get back on the board. The teams then fought their way to 14 ties with the last one coming at 23-23. Dordt got a block from April Solsma against Alex Anstine and then won the set on a double-contact against the Briar Cliff setter for a 25-23 win.
Set two was all Dordt as they pulled away fro a 6-5 lead with a Kelsey Van Dyke kill followed by an April Solsma kill for a three point cushion. Up 10-7 the Defenders put together a three point run on kills by Larissa Veldhuizen and the Defenders pulled away for a 25-15 win.
Set three closely resembled set one to the 15-15 mark when Dordt put together a push that gave them a lead they would never relinquish in winning 25-21 with the match winner coming on a block by Solsma and Kristin De Ronde.
Dordt was led by Potgeter's 11 kills and Veldhuizen had ten with Van Dyke putting away nine. Cassie Huizenga lofted 21 assists and De Stigter 16. De Stigter had one of two service aces by the Defenders and Brandee Schaap had the other. Dorinda Hibma got to 17 digs and Potgeter had a solo block and three assisted blocks for the Defenders.
Briar Cliff was led by Nicole Hoogeveen's nine kills and Geri Heimann had six. Alex Anstine dug up eight and Kayla Bessmer had 19 assists .
Dordt is now 25-5 overall and 8-2 in the GPAC with six matches remaining. Briar Cliff falls to 6-4 and 16-10. Dordt takes the regular season sweep of the Chargers and the win was coach Tom Van Den Bosch's 399th on the bench for the Defenders.
Dordt will host Sioux Falls on Tuesday night in GPAC play beginning with the junior varsity match at 6:00 and the varsity at 7:30.
