Dordt College Women's Volleyball vs. Columbia--Bellevue Tournament

(Bellevue, Nebraska) The Dordt College Defenders turned away the #6 team in the country, Columbia (Missouri), Saturday afternoon at the Bellevue Classic hosted by Bellevue University (Nebraska). The Defenders were able to upset the NAIA volleyball power with a quick start and finished the Cougars off with a 28-26 marathon win in set four.
The Defenders earned a narrow 25-23 win in set one and then won set two going away with a 25-13 margin. Columbia took set three with a commanding 25-18 decision but the Defenders took the lead in set four and built the margin up to 24-21 before the Cougars came back to tie it at 24-24. Dordt got a kill from Kristin De Ronde to end the set and the match for the 3-1 win--the first in school history over Columbia in ten meetings.
Dordt was led by Kendra Potgeter's 19 kills against just five errors in 40 attempts. April Solsma had ten and De Ronde nine. Kelsey Van Dyke put away eight and had a team high four ace serves with 11 digs.
Cassie Huizenga put up 24 assists with 11 digs while Dorinda Hibma had a match high 26 digs. Potgeter also accounted for two solo blocks and Solsma had one and three assists. De Ronde had a block and was in on two assisted stuffs.
Columbia was led by Flavia Lino with 20 kills and Luana Branco put up 35 assists.
Dordt is now 19-2 overall and Columbia drops to 16-2.
The #15 ranked Defenders are scheduled to face Bellevue late tonight in the final match of the day and the tournament.
