Dordt College Women's Volleyball vs. Dakota Wesleyan

(Sioux Center, Iowa) The Dordt College Defender volleyball team earned a 3-0 win over the Dakota Wesleyan Tigers in the GPAC opener for the Defenders. The Defenders were led by Kendra Potgeter (sophomore; Byron Center, Michigan) in the 25-15, 25-18, 25-17 win to claim their tenth win in twelve tries.
Dordt won set one in commanding fashion and took an early lead in set two at 7-3. Wesleyan was able to regroup and fight back to tie it at 7 but were never able to take a lead larger than one. Dordt managed to tie it at 15-15, starting a three point run in the process and scored six of the final seven points for the 25-18 win.
Set three was very similar with Dordt leading 7-2, only to have Wesleyan tie it at 7-7. The Tigers took a brief lead at 9-7 but Dordt tied it at 13-13 and pulled away for the 25-17 win.
Dordt was led by Potgeter's 14 kills against just three errors in 28 attempts. Earlier in the day Potgeter was named the GPAC Player of the Week for matches played September 1-7. Balance was the name of the game after that with Dordt getting eight kills from Kelsey Van Dyke (freshman; Edgerton, Minnesota) and seven by April Solsma (freshman, Sanborn, Iowa). Kristin De Ronde (senior; Oskaloosa, Iowa had five kills in the match.
Dorinda Hibma (sophomore; Sioux Center, Iowa) led the defense with 24 digs and Potgeter was in on two solo blocks and four assisted blocks. Amber Weingartner (sophomore; Arvada, Colorado) had nine digs with an ace serve and Hibma and Kari Van Beek (freshman; Sanborn, Iowa) had two ace serves a piece. Jessica De Stigter (freshman; Sioux Center, Iowa) and Cassie Huizenga (junior; Orange City, Iowa) had 20 and 13 assists respectively.
Dakota Wesleyan was led by Maria Weineke with seven kills and Morgan Carlson put up 23 assists with Dena Kopfman leading the team with 25 digs.
Dordt, who was ranked #15 in the NAIA national poll released earlier in the day, improves to 10-2 while Wesleyan is now 4-6.
Dordt travels to Hastings, Nebraska for four matches this weekend against Park (Missouri), Oklahoma Baptist, Peru State (Nebraska) and Texas Wesleyan.
