Dordt College Women's Volleyball vs. Oklahoma City

(Brownsville, Texas) The Dordt College Defender volleyball team lost their first decision of the 2008 season on Saturday at a tournament hosted by the University of Texas-Brownsville. The Defenders stumbled against Oklahoma City 3-2 in dropping to 2-1 for the season in matches.
The Defenders had their chances in set one, letting an 18-10 lead slip away before getting nipped at the end 26-24. Game two was all Oklahoma City 25-15. Dordt reversed the one-sided score with a pair of lopsided wins in sets three and four with 25-10 and 25-9 decisions. Set five was a tight decision with Oklahoma City outlasting Dordt 15-9.
Dordt was led by Kelsey Van Dyke (freshman; Edgerton, Minnesota) with 12 kills and Larissa Veldhuizen (junior; Pipestone, Minnesota) was strong with 10 kills in 19 attempts with just one error. Dordt's middle blockers, Kendra Potgeter (sophomore; Byron Center, Michigan) and Kristin De Ronde (senior; Oskaloosa, Iowa) had 10 and eight kills each. Jessica De Stigter (freshman; Sioux Center, Iowa) had 22 assists and Cassie Huizenga (junior; Orange City, Iowa) had 19 assists. De Stigter was also tops on the team with 11 digs and Brandee Schaap (freshman; Sanborn, Iowa) had 10. Dordt had eight ace serves as a team.
"I was proud of the way we bounced back from the 2-0 deficit in the match. You could have flipped a coin to decide game five," said Dordt volleyball coach Tom Van Den Bosch.
Dordt will face the host school Texas-Brownsville late tonight to cap the weekend.
