Dordt College Women's Volleyball vs. Peru State

(Orange City, Iowa) The Dordt College Defender volleyball team survived their second five-game match test of the day Saturday afternoon with a 3-2 win over the Peru State Bobcats (Nebraska) at the Northwestern Red Raider Classic in Orange City, Iowa.
The Defenders won game one easily, blitzing the Bobcats for a 30-18 decision. Peru State came back to win game two 30-28 and took a 2-1 game advantage whe Dordt didn't finish game three, winning 31-29 after trailing the Defenders 17-10.
Dordt recovered for a 30-23 win in game four and then jumped out to a 9-3 lead in game five before winning 15-8.
Kristin De Ronde (Junior; Oskaloosa, Iowa) put away 23 kills and Autumn Vande Kamp (Freshman; Sioux Center, Iowa) had 21 kills from the outside. Larissa Veldhuizen (Sophomore; Pipestone, Minnesota) and Kendra Potgeter (Freshman; Byron Center, Michigan) had 19 and 16 kills respectively in a match where the Defenders piled up 85 kills. Potgeter also had two solo and five assisted blocks at the net. Emily Van Voorst (Senior; Rock Valley, Iowa) had the vast majority of the assists with 77 while Liz Van Voorst (Junior; Rock Valley, Iowa) had 38 digs. Betsy Van't Hul (Sophomore; Rock Valley, Iowa) had 16 digs and Brittany Haan (Freshman; Sioux Center, Iowa) and Dorinda Hibma (Freshman; Sioux Center, Iowa) had 13 digs a piece. The Defenders had a .310 kill efficiency as a team.
Dordt is now 3-1 and will travel to Omaha, Nebraska to face the College of Saint Mary Flames on Tuesday, August 28 at 7:00. It is a single varsity contest.
