Dordt College Women's Volleyball vs. Midland (NE)

(Sioux Center, Iowa) The Dordt College Defenders earned their 28th win of the season with a 3-1 win over the Midland Lutheran Warriors in Great Plains Athletic Conference on Saturday night in Sioux Center, Iowa.

The Defenders won game one 30-21 after getting out to a 10-2 advantage and were up 24-16 in game two before Midland Lutheran went on a run to take the momentum away. Dordt did hang on to win 34-32 and took a 2-0 lead.

Midland Lutheran jumped ahead in game three and never allowed the Defenders to take the lead. Dordt cut a 9-3 deficit down to 14-13 in the game but a Midland Lutheran run from up 18-15 to up 26-15 gave them a lead they would never relinquish on the way to a 30-22 win.

Game four teetered back and forth with the Defenders finally gaining the lead for good at 16-15. The game had nine ties to the 15-15 count. Dordt took a 20-15 lead only to have Midland cut it to 22-18 difference but Dordt held on to win 30-24.

Dordt was paced by Larissa Veldhuizen's 17 kills while Autumn Vande Kamp had 15 and Kristin De Ronde 14. De Ronde also had two solo blocks and an assisted block. Kendra Potgeter had 12 kills and a solo block while Emily Van Voorst ran the offense to 49 assists. Van Voorst also had five ace serves and 13 digs. Dorinda Hibma and Betsy Van't Hul both had 17 digs in Dordt's ninth win of the conference season.

Midland Lutheran was topped by Mikhala Newman, Megan Hoge and Amanda Hunt with 18, 16 and 15 kills respectively. Holly DeVorss had 45 assists in the loss and Britni Putnam got to 35 digs. Midland Lutheran is now 11-16 overall and 4-8 in the GPAC.

Dordt will host Dakota Wesleyan on Tuesday at 7:30 and travel to Mount Marty on Friday in Yankton.

Dordt is currently fourth in the GPAC standings with three games remaining. Hastings and Morningside are tied for the top spot and must play each other. Northwestern has three losses and Dordt has four losses along with Briar Cliff and Concordia.
