Dordt College Women's Volleyball vs. Sioux Falls

(Sioux Falls, South Dakota) The Dordt College Defender volleyball team ran their conference record to 7-4 and their overall mark to 26-6 with a 3-0 win over the Sioux Falls Cougars on Wednesday night in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

The Defenders pulled away in game one with a 6-0 run to go from down 2-0 to up 6-2 and got as much as a 17-7 lead before the Cougars made a game of it, trimming the lead down to 20-16 before Dordt re-established order and won an eventual 30-23 decision.

Game two had the Defeders in front from the outset and had the visitors up by as many as 20-12 before Sioux Falls made one charge to get within 22-19. The Defenders went to Kristin De Ronde in the middle and the junior responded with several kills as Dordt pulled away 30-22.

Sioux Falls took advantage of an early Dordt falter in game three to tak a 13-9 lead but a Dordt College timeout righted the ship and the Defenders tied it at 14. It was tied again at 15 and 16 before Dordt took the lead for good at 17-16, running off three points in a row eventually and rode that surge to a 30-23 win.

Dordt was led by Larissa Veldhuizen's 14 kills while Kendra Potgeter had 10 and Autumn Vande Kamp and Kristin De Ronde each had nine. Emily Van Voorst continued to put up good numbers at setter where she had 40 assists. Liz Van Voorst had Dordt's lone ace serve and got to 13 digs. Dorinda Hibma had a team high 22 digs and Betsy Van't Hul had 13. Sioux Falls was led by Beth Mathes with 16 kills and she also had 13 digs.

Dordt is tied for fifth in terms of losses in the GPAC with a 7-4 mark. Morningside is the frontrunner with a 10-1 mark while Briar Cliff, Hastings and Northwestern all have three losses. Dordt shares fifth right now with the Concordia Bulldogs. Most teams have five matches remaining over the next two weeks.

Dordt College will host Dana on Friday night and Midland Lutheran on Saturday night. Both matches begin at 6:00 with Junior Varsity contests with Varsity play to begin at 7:30.
