Dordt College Women's Volleyball vs. Hastings

(Sioux Center, Iowa) The Dordt College Defenders won for the second time this week over a ranked foe in Great Plains Athletic Conference volleyball action with a 3-0 win over the Hastings College Broncos.

The Defenders started fast, getting out to a 10-2 lead before Hastings closed the gap and eventually tied it at 11-11. Points came grudgingly from there with six more ties to 19-19. Dordt used a three point run to get up 22-19 and then held the Broncos off 30-25.

Game two had Dordt well out in front early and were never seriously challenged in winning 30-21. The Defenders pulled away from a 21-15 advantage with six straight points.

Game three had Hastings in front early, up 7-3 when Dordt used their first time out and up 12-6 when Dordt burned their second timeout. The Defenders then closed the gap to 16-15 but couldn't tie it until 22-22. Hastings seemed to right the ship in taking a 24-22 advantage, but they wouldn't score again as the Defenders scored the final eight points of the game and the match for a 30-24 victory wtih Brittany Haan serving two aces in the sequence and had four for the night.

Dordt's Emily Van Voorst had 40 assists with four kills and was in on four block assists. Autumn Vande Kamp had 13 kills for th eDefenders while Larissa Veldhuizen put away 12 and Kendra Potgeter and Betsy Van't Hul had nine. Van Voorst, Van't Hul and Becca Schelhaas all had one ace serve a piece while Hibma led the team with 19 digs. Van't Hul had 13 and Liz Van Voorst 12 in Dordt's 23rd win in 29 starts.

Hastings was led by Jill Whalen wtih nine kills and Kelsea Jones had eight. Halley Van Laningham had 15 assists and Lyndi Rouzee put down two ace serves. Jacqui Smith got to 17 digs. Hastings is now 18-6 overall and 6-2 in the GPAC.

Dordt faces Concordia on Saturday in Sioux Center with a 3:00 start for the varsity.
