Dordt College Women's Volleyball vs. Northwestern

(Orange City, Iowa) The Dordt College Defender volleyball team beat their second ranked opponent in eight days with a 30-26, 30-23 and 30-28 win over Northwestern in a Great Plains Athletic Conference match at the Bultman Center in Orange City, Iowa Wednesday night.
The Defenders struck first when they pulled away from a 10-10 tie in game one to establish a 14-11 lead when Northwestern called their first time out. Northwestern was forced to use timeout number two when Dordt got up 20-13. The Red Raiders battled back to with in 24-23 only to have Dordt push the lead out to 27-23. Northwestern again scored three points in a row to narrow the gap to 27-26 but Dordt held on for the 30-26 win with the final three points of the game.
Dordt took control of game two early pushing out to a 16-10 lead but Northwestern would battle back again, tiying the game at 16-16, but never taking the lead as the Defenders got up by a 21-7 margin and were in control the rest of the way for a 30-23 final.
Northwestern changed their lineup for game three and it paid early dividends as they pushed the lead up to 15-9 at which point Dordt used their last timeout. The Defenders responded with a four point run to get back in the game and got to within one at 21-20. Northwestern seemed to have the game under control when they got the difference back to 25-22 but the Defenders tied the game at 26 and took the lead for good at 27-26 on the way to a 30-28 win.
Dordt was led by Larissa Veldhuizen's 17 kills and Kristin De Ronde added 11. Kendra Potgeter was limited to five kills but was in on one solo and one assisted block. Emily Van Voorst put up 33 assists and had three kills to go along with six digs. Dorinda Hibma had a team high 16 digs and Liz Van Voorst had seven. Kristin De Ronde and Betsy Van't Hul had two assisted blocks each. Dordt totaled two ace serves, one each from Becca Schelhaas and Brittany Haan.
Hillary Hanno led Northwestern with 12 kills while Megan Meyer added eight and had 16 digs while Rachel Gosselink put up 33 assists.
Dordt improves to 22-6 overall and 3-4 in the GPAC while Northwestern slips to 15-7 and 3-3 in the league. Dordt will play the nationally ranked Hastings College Broncos on Friday night in Sioux Center at 7:30.
