The Dordt College Defender volleyball team won their first match at the Baker Invite against the host school in Baldwin City, Kansas on Friday.

The Defenders won games one and three by 30-24 counts and took game two by a 30-19 decision led by Kristin De Ronde's play in the middle. The junior put down 20 kills with no errors in just 34 attempts. Larissa Veldhuizen added 10 kills and Autumn VandeKamp nine. Emily Van Voorst put up 41 assists and Dorinda Hibma led the team with 20 digs. Hibma also had two ace serves and shared game honors in that category with Liz Van Voorst.

Dordt plays Benedictine later tonight and then will face Avila (Kansas) at 1:00 on Saturday and start the second at the Classic against William Jewell (Missouri) at 9:00.

"William Jewell and Benedictine were pretty even when they played today so I expect them to be a real test on Saturday," said Dordt coach Tom Van Den Bosch.

The Defenders are now 10-1.
