(Orange City, Iowa) The Dordt College Defenders evened their record at 1-1 with a 3-2 match win over John Brown University (Arkansas) at the Northwestern Red Raider Classic in Orange City, Iowa on Friday night.

The Lady Defenders rebounded from a 3-0 loss to the College of Saint Mary (Nebraska)earlier in the day.

Dordt squandered a lead of 24-16 in game one, losing by an eventual 31-29 decision. Games two and three were won handily by the Defenders 30-15 and 30-25. Game four swung to John Brown late for a 30-20 decision.

During the decisive game five, Dordt trailed 12-9, but scored four straight points to take a 13-12 lead and won 15-13 on a kill by McKinzie Schmidt, her eleventh of the match.

Lindsey Van Wyk led Dordt with 21 kills and 25 digs. Kristin De Ronde had 16 kills and Schmidt and Larissa Veldhuizen had 11 and 10 respectively. Emily Van Voorst put up 56 assists and Steph Helmus had three ace serves. Betsy Van't Hul and Traci Kooima each had two ace serves and Kooima also had 22 digs.

The eleventh rated Defenders are now 1-1.
