Dordt College Women's Volleyball vs. Concordia

(Seward, Nebraska) The Dordt College Defender volleyball team overcame a lethargic start to beat the Concordia Bulldogs 3-1 in a match played at Seward, Nebraska.
The Bulldogs came out hot, taking a 4-0 lead and Dordt was on their heels the rest of the game, cutting the margin down to 21-18, but were unable to get an closer before losing 30-24. Game two had Concordia jumping in front early 4-2 but the Defenders fought back to take the lead at 5-4 and eventually led 24-18. After a timeout, the Bulldogs reeled off seven points in a row with Jaelle Rodenbeck serving and took a brief lead at 25-24. Dordt tied it at 25 and 26 and it was tied again at 28 and 29 before Dordt scored the final two points of the game 31-29 to even the match at 1-1.
Game three was a tussle with Dordt finally slowing Natalie Koopman a bit at the net. The outside hitter for Concordia had ten kills in teh first two games but was limited to just two kills in game three as Dordt took the lead at 9-8 and never relinquished it the rest of the way, winning 30-26. The game didn't come without it's tense moments with Concordia narrowing the gap from 29-23 to 29-26 before a missed serve gave the Defenders the 30-26 win. Game four was more of the same with 13 ties, the last one coming at 19-19. That tie was part of a six point run that took Dordt from down two to up four and Larissa Veldhuizen provided the final three kills for Dordt's 30-23 win.
The win pushes Dordt to 10-4 in the conference and 24-9 overall and is their 15th win in their last 16 outings. Concordia drops to 20-12 and 9-6 in the league.
Dordt was led by Kristin De Ronde's 17 kills and Veldhuizen's 15. Lindsey Van Wyk had 12 kills with a team high 32 digs while Emily Van Voorst was right at her season average for kills with 40. Liz Van Voorst had three ace serves and 22 digs while Traci Kooima had 26 digs. The hosts were led by Natalie Koopman's 18 kills and Katie Werner's 17. Kelli Ziegler put up 37 assists in the loss.
The win is Dordt's 10th in the series since 1998 against one loss. The Defenders are currenlty tied for third with Doane at 10-4 in the GPAC with two matches to go.
