Dordt College Women's Volleyball vs. Doane-GPAC Finals

November 15, 2003

(Sioux Center, Iowa) The Dordt Lady Defenders captured the GPAC tournament championship tonight with a 3-0 win over the Doane Tigers.

The Defenders found themselves down early in game one, but came back to force five straight ties, the last coming at 10-10. Doane ripped off three straight points to put the Defenders down again, but again Dordt came back to tie the game at 14-all. After another tie at 15-15, the Defenders used a 9-0 run to pull ahead for good.

Game two was also close through the first 11 points, which featured five separate ties. The Defenders pulled ahead midway through the game, but Doane came back to tie it again at 20-20. Dordt prevailed again, winning 30-24.

Game three was another back and forth battle, featuring six ties. The Defenders, down 15-12 at on point, came back to force the final tie at 19-19, then ripped off the last five points in a row for the win.

Rachel Pontier led the Defender attack with 16 kills, while Tara De Boer added 13. Alisa Den Hartog had five ace serves to go along with her 37 assists. Doane's Rochelle Schmidt had 11 kills for the Tigers.

Dordt College was 14-0 at home this season and has won 42 matches in a row at the De Witt Gym dating back to a 3-2 loss to the College of Saint Mary on October 26, 2000.
