Dordt College Volleyball vs. Nebraska Wesleyan

(Lincoln, Nebraska) The Dordt College Defender volleyball team lost a 3-1 decision to close the regular season at Nebraska Wesleyan Saturday afternoon in Lincoln, Nebraska.
Wesleyan led from the outset in in set one, building a 19-10 lead before the Defenders cut the gap to 23-22. The two teams traded points to get it to 24-23 and Wesleyan won it with a kill by Katelyn Walsh for a 25-23 final.
Set two was all Dordt with the Defenders jumping out to a 19-9 lead and they rode that advantage to a 25-13 win with Kiley Velgersdyk getting the kill to finish it.
The match hinged on set three with the Defenders leading 19-14 on an attack error by the hosts. Dordt gave up a three point run to give the Prairie Wolves life and they eventually tied it at 21-21. The score was tied again at 22, 23, 24, 25 and 26 before the hosts got a kill for the final of 28-26. Leading 2-1, the hosts got up 14-10. Dordt went on four point run to tie with with kills by Velgersdyk and Katelyn Schuller and a couple of hitting errors by Wesleyan. From there Wesleyan pulled away and took a 25-21 advantage.
Dordt hit .200 for the match with Schuller getting 14 and Lindsey Floen added 13 and was in on eight blocks. Danae Geels added 12 and Velgersdyk seven.
Kayla Gesink put up 34 assists and Bekah Posthuma put up 14. Gesink also had 14 digs and Kayla Broekhuis led the way with 21 and Jana Van Zanten had 12.
Dordt ends the regular season with an 11-5 GPAC mark and 22-11 overall while Nebraska Wesleyan is 13-15 overall and 7-9. The Defenders will host a GPAC quarterfinal round contest in the post-season tournament on Tuesday, November 6 against Briar Cliff at 8:00.
