Dordt College Volleyball vs. Jamestown-Northwestern Classic

(Orange City, Iowa) Dordt College held off the Jamestown Jimmies (North Dakota) on Saturday, August 25 in Orange City, Iowa, to improve to 3-1 in their first weekend of action this season.

Dordt was in command early, winning sets one and two by scores of 25-21 and 25-20. A sweep looked like it was in order with Dordt leading set three 23-21 but the Jimmies came back and took the set 27-25 and were in control the whole way in set four with a 25-22 advantage.

With the match in a decisive set five, the Defenders turned the momentum to their favor with a 6-2 run to start the set and went on another tear from up 7-6 to up 13-7, effectively putting the set out of reach, winning by a 15-11 margin.

"What a wonderful test for us to go against such a veteran team as Jamestown," said Dordt College coach Chad Hanson.

Dordt was led by Danae Geels with 19 kills and Lindsey Floen had 13 kills and was in on ten blocks. Jenna Horstman accounted for eight kills and Gesink had six.

Gesink also put up 44 assists and had 23 digs. Kayla Broekhuis and Jana Van Zanten each had 15 digs and Bousema had 13 with three ace serves.

"We had many bright spots in this contest through the offensive performances of Kayla, Danae and Lindsey. Our back row ball control group each had double digit digs along with Kayla's 23. Blocking was huge for us and Lindsey definitely took over with her ten," said Hanson.

Dordt is now 3-1 while Jamestown slips to 4-2.

Dordt will travel to Bellevue for four matches at a classic hosted by the Bruins next Friday and Saturday, August 31 and September 1.

"I am very pleased with the growth of our team this weekend and we look forward to our trip to Bellevue," said Hanson.
