Dordt College Volleyball vs. College of Saint Mary

(Omaha, Nebraska) Dordt College had little trouble with the College of Saint Mary Flames on Saturday, October 15 in non-conference volleyball action in Omaha, Nebraska. The Defenders won by scores of 25-18, 25-19, 25-23.

Dordt pulled away from a 7-7 tie in set for a 16-9 lead and kept the Flames at bay the rest of the way.

The Flames led set two 10-7 before Dordt made its move, scoring four points in a row to take a brief lead. Dordt then strung together another four points in a row on three Flame attack errors and an April Solsma kill. Dordt then scored the final five points of set two on a pair of Solsma kills an attack error by the hosts and a service ace by Jana Van Zanten.

Set three found Dordt on top from the start only to have the Flames come back to tie the set at 23-23 on a service ace. A Katelyn Schuller kill re-established order and the Defenders won the set and match on the next point.

"We played well for the match and I as pleased with how we finished. Great to get a win on the road," said Dordt College coach Chad Hanson.

Dordt was led in kills by Schuller with 11. Loy Griess put down eight kills while Jana Van Zanten and Lindsey Moerman accoutned for seven kills each. Jessica De Stigter put up a team high 16 assists and she also had team honors in digs with nine. Amber Weingartner had two of Dordt's four ace serves.

"It was great to get some additional playing opportunities for some important role players who bring it every day in our practice gym," said Hanson.

Dordt is 11-14 overall and stands 5-4 in the GPAC with seven matches to go over the next three weeks in the conference. Dordt will host Mount Marty on Tuesday night, October 18 in Sioux Center.

The College of Saint Mary Flames are now 12-19.
