Dordt College Volleyball vs. Bellevue-Bellevue Classic

(Bellevue, Nebraska) Dordt College dropped to 0-2 for the day at the Bellevue Bruin Premier Classic in Bellevue, Nebraska with a loss to the hosts in the evening match of the two-day affair.
The Defenders lost a hotly contested set one; bounced back for a win in set two and then lost the final two sets by identical 25-16 margins.
The Defenders were tied with the nationally ranked Bruins in set one with Lindsey Moerman knotting the score at 23-23. Bellevue then took advantage of a Dordt hitting miscue for the lead and won the set on a kill for the 25-23 win.
Set two featured Dordt coming from behind at 19-18 to take the lead for good on a pair of Bellevue hitting errors and the Defenders won it with three of their last four points coming on a pair of kills by Van Zanten and a set winner by April Solsma.
Sets three and four belonged to Bellevue with the Bruins controlling both from the outset to secure the win.
Dordt had nine kills from Jana Van Zanten and eight each for Kiley Velgersdyk and Lindsey Moerman. Dordt recorded 16 points by blocks. Kayla Gesink had 14 assists and Jessica De Stigter 13. Jocelyn Bousema got to 18 digs.
Dordt is 7-11 with a match against Grand View ahead for noon Saturday, September 24. Bellevue is now 14-4.
"This was a great blocking night for us! Bellevue brought out the full arsenal of attacks and our defense really stood up to the challenge," commented Dordt College coach Chad Hanson after the match. "This schedule of top 25 ranked opponents is only helping us grow toward a competitive GPAC schedule ahead."
