Dordt College Volleyball vs. Doane

(Crete, Nebraska) Dordt College earned a 3-2 win over the Doane Tigers at Fuhrer Fieldhouse in Crete, Nebraska in conference volleyball action Saturday afternoon.

Dordt won set one 25-22 when Carrie Vande Kamp took the service area with a 22-20 deficit and the Defenders reeled off five points in a row, getting the gamewinner on a block for the 25-22 win. Set two saw Doane self-destruct midway through the set with Dordt stretching the lead out to 21-11 before Doane got back to 24-19. Dordt won it on a net violation on the next play.

Doane returned the favor with a 25-19 win in set three, fighting off several Dordt comebacks after the set was tied at 10-10. Doane scored seven out of eight points at one juncture and forced set four. It was Dordt's turn to self destruct in set four with Doane taking all the momentum with a one-sided win of 25-12.

Dordt fell behind 3-1 in the decisive fifth set but Dordt tied it on a block and a Kendra Potgeter kill. The set was then tied at four and five before a run of four points in a row pushed Dordt up 9-5. The two teams traded service errors and Dordt pulled away to a 12-6 lead on a Van Zanten kill and block and Potgeter eventually won it on a kill for the 15-10 final.

Potgeter had 17 kills and Geels 12 while Brittany Landegent had 10 kills. Jessica De Stigter lofted 22 assists and Bekah Posthuma 21. Dorinda Hibma had 29 digs and was a perfect 43-43 on serve receptions.

The Defenders are 30-6 this season and will take an 11-4 GPAC record into their regular season finale with Mount Marty on Tuesday in Yankton, South Dakota. Doane slips to 22-5 and 13-2. Doane entered the match #14 in the country and Dordt #18.
