Dordt College Volleyball vs. Sioux Falls

(Sioux Falls, South Dakota) Dordt College roared to a 3-0 win in volleyball Friday night over the Sioux Falls Cougars at the Stewart Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Dordt trailed briefly early in set two but otherwise had little problem in taking a 25-19, 25-20, 25-16 decision.

Dordt opened a 20-10 lead in set one with back to back kills by Danae Geels and Brittany Landegent but a seven point run by the Cougars, including two ace serves, brought them to within 20-17. Three straight blocks after a Dordt timeout restored order and the Defenders won the set 25-19.

Sioux Falls led 1-0 and 2-1 in set two but Dordt scored three points in a row to pull away to a 6-3 advantage, getting the final point in the run off a Kari Van Beek service ace. The lead eventually bloomed to 14-8 before Sioux Falls made a charge getting to within 14-12 before a Kendra Potgeter kill extended the lead. Sioux Falls cut the lead to 20-17 again before Landegent registered a kill and Jessica De Stigter had a service ace. Sioux Falls kept the difference at three unitl Dordt score back to back points to end the set on a Van Zanten kill and a Dordt block for the 25-20 win.

Set three was all Dordt wtih the Defenders capitalizing on four Sioux Falls errors in a row for an 11-6 lead and the Defenders kept rolling, eventually pushing the lead to 22-12 before winning 25-16 on a Geels kill.

Kendra Potgeter had a match 13 kills while Geels and Van Zanten both had six. Potgeter was in on eight block assists with Dordt scoring 12 points off of blocks in the match. Dorinda Hibma had a match high 25 digs while Kayla Broekhuis, De Stigter and Kari Van Beek each had two service aces. De Stigter put up 17 assists and Bekah Posthuma had 13.

Sioux Falls was led Amber Nieuwsma with ten kills and 13 assists. Rachel Heeney registered 11 digs.

Dordt is now 27-5 overall and 8-3 in the league. Sioux Falls slides to 19-15 overall and 8-5 in the conference. Dordt will host Briar Cliff on Saturday night.
