Dordt College Volleyball vs. College of St. Mary

(Sioux Center, Iowa) The Dordt College Defenders earned a 3-0 win over the College of Saint Mary Flames on Tuesday night in non-conference action. The Defenders trailed briefly to start each set but managed to come back to control each set for their 24th win of the season.

Dordt took an 11-6 lead in set one on a pair of points by Danae Geels on a block and a kill and then used another four point run to pull away when the Flames had cut the difference to 14-11. Dordt finished the set off with a pair of Kendra Potgeter kills for a 25-17 win.

Set two was tied six different times with Dordt scoring three in a row to pull away from a 13-13 tie on a Potgeter kill, a double block and a College of Saint Mary hitting error. After a pair of unanswered Flame points the Defenders reeled off five in a row--getting two points in the run off of Kayla Broekhuis ace serves.

Set three was tight with Dordt pulling away to a 19-15 lead only to have the Flames hang around and eventually tie it at 24-24. Dordt went to their middles for the next two points with Potgeter getting one kill and Lindsey Moerman a kill to finish it.

Dordt was led by Geels with 13 kills and Potgeter had 12 to go with four block assists. Jana Van Zanten had ten kills and Loy Griess put away six. Carrie Vande Kamp and Jessica De Stigter had 24 and 21 assists each and Dorinda Hibma had 25 digs. Vande Kamp added 14 digs and Jocelyn Bousema had 12. Kayla Broekhuis put away four ace serves.

The Flames were topped by Ashley Iwanski with nine kills and Erin Dostal had 25 assists. Baylee Collins topped the Flames with 14 digs.

Dordt is now 24-5 while the College of Saint Mary is 10-11. Dordt will resume conference play on Saturday, October 16 at Midland in Fremont, Nebraska.
