Dordt College Volleyball vs. Black Hills State-Northwestern Tournament

(Orange City, Iowa) Dordt College finished off a 4-0 weekend at the Northwestern Red Raider Classic in Orange City, Iowa with a 3-1 match win over Black Hills State (South Dakota).
The Defenders won set one 25-21 but trailed 20-14 in set two. Dordt fought back to a tie at 20-20 with Brandee Schaap (Sophomore; Rock Valley, Iowa) getting on a roll from the service line. A lift call on the Defenders gave Black Hills State the lead and they rode it home for a 28-26 win.
Dordt was in control in set three and won 25-20 and set up a dramatic set four in the process. The Defenders were up by a comfortable 20-14 margin in set four but the Yellow Jackets came back to eventual tie it and had a set point serve before Dordt forced a tie at 25 and won it on a pair of attacks at the net.
Kendra Potgeter (Junior; Byron Center, Michigan), held in check much of the weekend, came up with 18 kills and six assisted blocks in the match up of NAIA National Tournament qualifiers. Jana Van Zanten (Freshman; Pella, Iowa) added 16 kills and Brittany Landegent (Freshman; Alvord, Iowa) had 11 kills and three block assists. Dordt's dual setter approach provided balanced numbers with Jessica De Stigter (Sophomore; Sioux Center, Iowa) getting 24 assists and Cassie Huizenga (Senior; Orange City, Iowa) added 20. De Stigter also had 10 digs, second on the team to Dorinda Hibma's (Junior; Sioux Center, Iowa) 25. April Solsma (Sophomore; Sanborn, Iowa) put down six kills and had five assisted blocks.
Dordt improves to 4-0 with the win and will host Briar Cliff on Wednesday, September 2. Black Hills State is now 4-5 and went 2-2 this weekend.
