Dordt College Volleyball vs. Concordia

(Seward, Nebraska) The Dordt College Defenders used early runs in sets one and two and came from behind late in set three of their match with the Concordia Bulldogs on Saturday night in Seward, Nebraska to improve to 7-2 in the Great Plains Athletic Conference and 19-7 overall.

Dordt trailed 3-1 in set one before Jessica De Stigter went to the service line and proceeded to serve for nine straight points with two aces in the run to take a commanding 10-3 lead. Concordia did cut the difference to 17-14 but the Defenders scored eight of the last nine points to register a 25-15 win. Set two was similar in that Dordt used an early run to go up 8-1 with Kendra Potgeter getting two kills and a block early. The Bulldogs again cut the gap to 17-14 with three points in a row but the Defenders used the same method to score eight of the final nine points for an identical 25-15 win.

Set three had the Defenders in front 18-15 but the Bulldogs roared back to take a 19-18 lead and actually served for the set at 24-22 but were unable to capitalize. Dordt scored three points in a row to get to match point only to have an overpass that Concordia pounded down for a kill. Concordia served for the set up 27-26 but a Steph Fykstra kill knotted it at 27 and a Brandee Schaap ace gave the visitors the lead and Dordt eventually won it on back to back kills by Jana Van Zanten and Betsy Van't Hul.

Kendra Potgeter put down 12 kills and Jana Van Zanten had seven. Dorinda Hibma got ot 17 digs and Schaap had 10 with Jessica De Stigter getting 18 assists and three ace serves. Cassie Huizenga also had an ace serve and 13 assists.

Dordt will travel to the College of Saint Mary on Tuesday, October 13 in non-conference play starting at 7:00 before returning home to host Doane and Nebraska Wesleyan on Parent's Weekend, October 16 and 17.
