Dordt College Volleyball vs. Northwestern

(Orange City. Iowa) The Dordt College Defender volleyball team lost a matchup of ranked teams in a 3-0 defeat at the hands of the Northwestern Red Raiders in a match played in Orange City, Iowa.
The Defenders scored the first point of the match on a kill by Jana Van Zanten but Northwestern responded with five points in a row and never trailed again in the set with Dordt cutting the lead to 16-14, but got no closer 25-21. Set two had Northwestern running off five points in a row and built the lead to 18-10 before Dordt mounted a charge on five straight points to make it 21-19 but Northwestern scored the next three points and an eventual 25-20 win. The two teams played to ties at 2,3,4 and 5 before Northwestern ran off four straight points to get up 9-5. Dordt battled back to 11-11 but Northwestern scored four in a row for a 15-11 lead and went on to win after Dordt narrowed it to a 24-21 difference.
Jana Van Zanten led Dordt with a 20 kill evening to go with one ace serve and four digs. Kendra Potgeter had seven kills and Brittany Landegent had five. Cassie Huizenga put up 17 assists and Jessica De Stigter had 13. Dorinda Hibma had 15 digs and Brandee Schaap nine.
Dordt entered the match 10-0 and #14 in the country while Northwestern was 8-1 and #5. Dordt will travel to the Olivet Nazarene Invite in Bourbainnes, Illinois on Friday and Saturday, September 18 and 19 in their next outing. Dordt will play four matches with the first three against Olivet Nazarene, Lindenwood and Indiana Wesleyan.
