Dordt College Volleyball vs. Black Hills State-Northwestern Tournament

(Orange City, Iowa) Dordt College came storming back from a 2-1 set deficit to earn their third match win in a row by a 3-2 margin Saturday evening at the Northwestern Classic in Orange City, Iowa. The Defenders scored the win over the Black Hills State YellowJackets for their seventh win of the season against one loss. Half of Dordt's matches so far have gone the full five sets.
Dordt won set one 25-22 but lost a see-saw decision in set two 28-26. Black Hills State won set three 25-19 and looke primed to win set four when they came back from a 24-22 deficit for match point but were unable to convert and Dordt won 28-26 on an April Solsma kill on an overpass. Set four had Dordt get a 13-9 advantage and hold on for a 15-13 win.
Dordt's Kendra Potgeter (sophomore; Byron Center, Michigan) had 17 kills with three assisted blocks and Brandee Schaap (freshman; Sanborn, Iowa) had 11 kills and 17 digs. Kelsey Van Dyke (freshman; Edgerton, Minnesota) put away nine kills and Kristin De Ronde (senior; Oskaloosa, Iowa) had nine kills.
Jessica De Stigter (freshman; Sioux Center, Iowa) and Cassie Huizenga (junior; Orange City, Iowa)ran the offense wtih 26 and 22 assists respectively. Amber Weingartner (freshman; Arvada, Colorado) had 13 digs and three ace serves while Dorinda Hibma (sophomore; Sioux Center, Iowa) led teh team with 21 digs.
Dordt went 4-0 over the weekend and are 7-1 this season. The Defenders will play in a tournament hosted by the College of Saint Mary on Friday, September 5 and Saturday, September 6 with matches scheduled against Concordia (California), MidAmerica Nazarene (Kansas) and Kansas Wesleyan.
