Dordt College Volleyball vs. Northwestern

(Orange City, Iowa) The Dordt College Defender women's volleyball team fell to #9 ranked Northwestern in Orange City by a final match score of 25-15, 25-21, 18-25, 22-25, 15-11. The match was the regular season finale for both teams. The match marked the second time this season that the two long-time rivals went to five sets with Northwestern prevailing both times.
Northwestern pulled away to a 14-5 lead on seven straight points and held Dordt off the rest of the way for a 25-15 win. Set two was tied 14-14 with Northwestern getting a slight margin to work with and held on for a 25-21 win.
Set three found Dordt staying alive with an eight point run with Kelsey Van Dyke serving to go from up 8-7 to up 16-7. Northwestern was never able to get closer than five with Dordt getting the 25-18 win.
Dordt kept the momentum as the fought to a 7-7 tie and then took the lead on a Kristin De Ronde kill. Dordt built the lead to 12-8 only to see Northwestern cut the lead to 12-11 on a Randa Hulstein kill. Dordt never relinquished the lead but Northwestern kept it close with a Hillary Hanno kill to make it 17-16 and a Randa Hulstein kill made it 23-22. Dordt then closed the set with back to back kills by Kelsey Van Dyke for the 25-22 win. Dordt had the early lead in set five with a 9-7 with a Kelsey Van Dyke kill. Northwestern then scored three points in a row. Dordt did tie it on a Larissa Veldhuizen kill but Northwestern went up 12-10 and Dordt never tied it again in falling 15-11.
Dordt is now 30-6 and 13-3 in the GPAC while Northwestern finishes the regular season with a 27-6 record and a 16-0 conference mark.
Dordt was led by Kristin De Ronde's 16 kills and Kendra Potgeter had 12. Cassie Huizenga had 15 assists and Jessica De Stigter put up 16. Dorinda Hibma had a team high 25 digs and De Ronde was in on two solo blocks and four assisted.
Northwestern was paced by Randa Hulstein with 18 kills and Rylee Hulstein had 14. Kaitlin Beaver had 46 assists and Rylee Hulstein had a team high 21 digs.
Both Dordt and Northwestern receive byes in the first round of the GPAC playoffs and will host quarterfinal round matches on Saturday.
