Dordt College Volleyball vs. Sioux Falls

(Sioux Falls, South Dakota) The Dordt College Defender volleyball team had little trouble with the Sioux Falls Cougars Tuesday night in Great Plains Athletic Conference volleyball at the Stewart Center.

Dordt raced to a 10-2 lead in set one after scoring the first six points of the set on the way to a 25-10 win. Kendra Potgeter (sophomore; Byron Center, Michigan) had four kills in set one.

"We were passing well and serving tough and they couldn't match up with our middles," said Dordt coach Tom Van Den Bosch.

Set two had four ties, the last at 7-7 before Dordt built a three point lead that stood until 16-13 when the Defenders pulled away for a 25-17 final. Set three was more of the same with Dordt leading 21-17 before scoring the last four points of the set and the match for a 25-17 win.

"We got a little sloppy in games two and three," said Van Den Bosch. "We weren't as sharp as game one."

Potgeter led eith 12 kills and two solo blocks. Kristin De Ronde (senior; Oskaloosa, Iowa) had eight kills and two solo blocks and April Solsma (freshman; Sanborn, Iowa) put down seven kills with no errors in ten attempts and had two solo blocks as well.

Dorinda Hibma (sophomore; Sioux Center, Iowa) got to 14 digs and was a perfect 19-19 in serve reception. Cassie Huizenga (junior; Orange City, Iowa) had 18 assists and Jessica De Stigter (freshman; Sioux Center, Iowa) put up 14 assists in Dordt's 15th match win of the season.

Dordt has won eight matches in a row and are 15-2 with a 2-0 Great Plains Athletic Conference record. Sioux Falls is 6-7 and stand 0-2 in the league.

The Defenders host Midland Lutheran on Saturday, September 20 at 1:30. There will be no junior varsity match as Midland Lutheran is not fielding a junior varsity team this season.
