Dordt College Volleyball vs. Concordia (California)--College of St. Mary Tournament

(Omaha, Nebraska) The Dordt College Defender volleyball team battled the #3 ranked Concordia (California) Eagles to a fifth set before losing 3-2 on Friday night at a match played at the College of Saint Mary in Omaha, Nebraska. The Defenders were unable to close the match out after taking a 2-1 lead after three sets.

Dordt got Concordia on their heels early in taking a 28-26 win in set one. Set two was all Concordia with the Eagles thumping Dordt 25-10.

"They attacked and we didn't pass well," said Dordt volleyball coach Tom Van Den Bosch. "They attacked relentlessly."

Dordt recovered to take set three by a 25-21 margin but lost a narrow 25-23 decision in set four. Tied 2-2 Concordia flexed their muscle and won set five 15-8.

"We recovered after set three and played them really tough. In the end they had too much experience and size. I'm very happy with how we played," said Dordt coach Tom Van Den Bosch.

Dordt was led by Kendra Potgeter (sophomore; Byron Center, Michigan) with 21 kills and three assisted blocks. Brandee Schaap (freshman; Sanborn, Iowa) had 10 kills and April Solsma (freshman; Sioux Center, Iowa) nine. Kelsey Van Dyke put away seven kills and had 15 digs while Dorinda Hibma (sophomore; Sioux Center, Iowa) got to 28 digs and had three ace serves. Dordt's setting duties were split between Cassie Huizenga (junior; Orange City, Iowa) with 25 kills and Jessica De Stigter (freshman; Sioux Center, Iowa) with 24.

Dordt will face Midamerica Nazarene (Kansas) and Kansas Wesleyan on Saturday in Omaha, Nebraska.
